  William Randolph Hearst's Spanish acquisition lay strewn in Golden Gate Park, San Francisco, for decades. In the 1990s, the remains of the Cistercian monastery were transported to Northern California, to be restored and rebuilt on the property of the Cistercian Abbey of New Clairvaux.

Phase One included sorting and retieving the dimensions from the rubble.
